News Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation's Annual Dinner To Honor Maurice R. “Hank” Greenberg
Dinner to be held December 8 at Waldorf=Astoria Hotel in New York City
New York, NY, May 24, 2010 – The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF), is pleased to announce that Maurice R. “Hank” Greenberg, chairman and chief executive officer of C. V. Starr & Company, will receive this year’s Double I Award – for influence in the industry and impact in the community – at the foundation’s annual New York dinner. The event is being held on Wednesday, December 8 at the Waldorf=Astoria Hotel in New York City from 5:30pm to 8:30pm EST.
“Hank Greenberg has unprecedented influence in the industry, and his contributions through personal philanthropy and as chair of The Starr Foundation have had a major impact on the New York tri-state area,” said Michael P. Fujii, IICF New York Divison Board Chair. Fujii, who is president and chief executive officer of Worldwide Insurance Operations for Endurance Specialty Holdings, Ltd. noted that, “Mr. Greenberg personifies influence and impact, and we are pleased to have the opportunity to honor him at our benefit dinner.”
Greenberg joined C. V. Starr & Company as vice president in 1960 and was given the additional responsibilities of president of American Home Assurance Company in 1962. He was elected director of C. V. Starr & Company in 1965, and chairman and CEO in 1968.
Greenberg retired as chairman and CEO of American International Group, Inc. (AIG) in March 2005, after serving as CEO from 1967 until March 2005. Under his leadership, AIG became the largest insurance company in the world. During the nearly 40 years of his leadership, AIG’s market value grew from $300 million to $180 billion. C.V. Starr founded AIG in 1967.
The proceeds from the event will provide significant grants to charities in the New York tri-state area.
